Advent! This is the start of the Christmas season in the catholic church, from Sunday, 27November 2022 to Saturday, 24 December 2022. Taken from the Latin word adventus “coming; arrival.”

Our church (St. Thomas of Canterbury, Grays) conducted its bazaar Sunday 27th, 2022. It was a spectacular and colourful event, with lots of families coming together to buy items to help raise funds for the church.

What I enjoyed about this bazaar was the multicultural mix of people and of course how items contributed by members of the church were sold at very discounted rates. I got hand creams for as little as 50p, and a body mist set for £4. Talk about ‘Bargain Hunt‘.

The food sold reflected the multicultural mix of the congregation and area as we had from very warm English tea to lovely cupcakes, sponge cakes, sausage rolls, and all types of sweet and savoury pies, to African dishes like Jollof rice, fried rice, and waakye (rice and bean).

A lot of people used the bazaar as an avenue to get some early Christmas gift shopping done.

This event will raise needed funds for the restoration and maintenance of the church. It’s nice to see that a lot of people turned up for this. As the saying goes, “Charity begins at home.”
